Gadgets Despite Bump to $99/Year, Amazon Prime Attracts 10 Million New Customers Jason Mick (Blog) - December 26, 2014 3:08 PM We are excited to welcome more than ten million new members to Amazon Prime this holiday season, who benefited from unlimited Free Two-Day Shipping on their holiday gifts. Prime members can also borrow more than 700,000 books, listen to one million songs and hundreds of playlists, save unlimited photos and watch tens of thousands of movies and TV episodes including the Golden Globe nominated show from Amazon Studios, Transparent. We are working hard to make Prime even better and expanding the recently launched Prime Now to additional cities in 2015. I'm pretty sure they are including all the FREE Prime they offered anyone until end of year. The story is "10 million new customers tried Prime over the holidays", not paid for it. If you want to get pedantic they also include all the free Prime offered for purchasing various products. The release didn't clarify whether it was talking paid subscriptions. But it did sound like they were referring to year subscriptions, not trial subscriptions. And remember many tablets (e.g. the HDX) only come with a trial subscription. quote: The story is "10 million new customers tried Prime over the holidays", not paid for it. Perhaps you're right, but clearly Amazon wins either way... it's hooking customers into its ecosystem both in terms of retail and products. Im not sure anyone tells the truth in statistics any longer so Im betting im included as part of that 10 million. But I would seriously consider it maybe flip between Prime and Netflix. Heck both is cheaper than cable/satellite. "This week I got an iPhone. This weekend I got four chargers so I can keep it charged everywhere I go and a land line so I can actually make phone calls." -- Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Happy Holidays From DailyTech!!
